8 long months have passed since I last posted on Voices Unsilenced and I am sure that you are not interested in my excuses. Well, you are in luck, as I have none! Sheer laziness has kept me from taking the time to commit to this site. I have often thought about getting back into writing, but I have always talked myself out of it by using my career or upcoming professional exams as justifications for my absence. However, in light of everything that is going on in the world, especially within the black community, I feel that it is important for me to have an outlet for my thoughts.
I always find it difficult to discuss current affairs in the workplace or amongst friends, especially when those involved in the conversation are unaware of the wider issues related to the topic at hand. This blog is my ‘safe place’ where we can freely debate issues with a certain level of respect. Therefore, going forward I am changing the format of my posts slightly. I will still write fictional pieces based on historical events, but I also want to post a few opinion pieces occasionally.
Whether my comments will add anything to the current discourse I do not know, but there are so many recent events weighing on my heart that I want to use Voices Unsilenced as my sounding board. I hope that this is ok with anyone who reads my work and I would be interested in hearing your thoughts.
The next post, which I am drafting now, will be up on Sunday 17th July at 6pm British Summer Time. In the meantime, enjoy the rest of your week and welcome back to Voices Unsilenced.
